Metropolitan Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Wellington

We’ve just wrapped up a truly inspiring project: outfitting the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Wellington for Team Architects—using our versatile Crypton™ fabric range.

Are we preaching to the converted?

With this project, the answer is a resounding yes—but with good reason.

From the outset, this sanctuary called for materials that honored its heritage, while offering ultimate durability and ease of maintenance. Crypton™ rose to the occasion, standing strong in a space filled with history and meaning. Its ability to withstand heavy usage, resist stains, and clean with ease makes it as well‑suited to grand heritage environments as to high‑traffic retirement and aged‑care settings.

Adding to the symbolism, the hymn selections were deeply meaningful:

  • Luke 15, the Parable of the Lost Sheep, speaks of guidance and redemption.

  • Psalm 23 begins, “The Lord is my shepherd…”—echoing the same themes of care and protection found in both scripture and fabric.

Whether it’s our bespoke Crypton™ woven designs or luxurious New Zealand wools, Maxwell Rodgers delivers textile solutions that meet both spiritual and functional needs—across every setting, from cathedral pews to care home lounges.
